Born in 1942, he entered journalism in 1960 and his first book, Veteran and Vntage Cars, published in 1970, has been printed in six languages. Since then, he has written Vintage Motor Cars, Steam on the Road, Historic Motor Cycles, The Encyclopedia of the American Automobile (with Karl Ludvigsen), Classics of the Road and (with David Hodges) The Story of the Car. He won the 1970 Cortina Award for his film-script of Seventy Years On and bas acted as a technical advisor to the BBC on various motor- ing programmes. He is now Co-ordinator of European Editorial Services at the Ford Motor Company. Married, with two children, he lives in Essex, where his hobbies include driving his 1927 Clyno tourer and collecting vintage jazz records.
